Solo Leveling originated as a web novel written by Chu-Gong, serialized from 2016 to 2018. It gained immense popularity and was later adapted into a webtoon (online comic) illustrated by Jang Sung-rak, published on the KakaoPage platform

Solo Leveling is set in a world where portals connect humanity to a dimension filled with monsters and creatures. Hunters, individuals with special abilities, are tasked with protecting humanity from these otherworldly threats. The story follows Sung Jin-Woo, a low-ranked hunter who gains the ability to see an interface called the "System," which allows him to level up and grow stronger like a character in a video game.

Sung      Jin-Woo is the protagonist of Solo Leveling. Initially a low-ranked hunter      struggling to make ends meet, he undergoes a dramatic transformation after      gaining the ability to see the System. Determined to become stronger and      protect those he cares about, Jin-Woo embarks on a journey of      self-discovery and power.

The System, introduced to Jin-Woo, allows hunters to level up their skills and acquire new abilities by completing quests and defeating monsters. while other hunters are stuck to being at whatever level they awakened onto only Sung Jin Woo can level up. 

As      Jin-Woo embraces his newfound powers, he faces increasingly powerful      monsters and challenges, gradually uncovering the mysteries surrounding      the System and his own past. Along the way, he forms alliances with other      hunters, confronts formidable adversaries, and delves deeper into the      secrets of the world beyond the portals. With each level he gains and      every battle he wins, Jin-Woo grows stronger, ultimately aiming to become      the most powerful hunter and protect humanity from the looming threats of      the otherworldly creatures.
